How To Have The Floors You Have Always Dreamed Of
By: Charlotte Barr

Out with the new and in with the old when it comes to your floors. Instead of getting new carpets to replace the stained and tattered ones, dispose of them. Most likely, there are hardwood floors underneath that have more potential than you think. Once hardwood floors are restored, they have a much longer life than carpets and rugs.
There are many benefits hardwood floors offer. Hardwood flooring rarely needs to be replaced. The upkeep is much more minimal without carpets and cleaning a wooden floor is obviously much easier. Carpets can also trap allergens such as pollen, mold and animal dander, which we all know can agitate anyone with allergies. It also increases the value of the home. If this is not the home you think you will live in forever, it is a good idea to swap rugs for hardwood. When people buy, they almost always critique the condition of the carpets, so why give these shoppers reason to want something other than what you offer? Dazzle them with your natural floors.
Start by grabbing a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the carpet up and remove of the staples. It is important to not ruin the flooring underneath, so be careful when pulling and cutting the carpet. Cutting should be done away from the floors, hold the carpet up while doing this. Your floors will be ready for the professionals to come in and beautify their existence.
Most likely, you will want to schedule the work for a week you may be on vacation. This will give the contractors flexibility to do their jobs without interference of the homeowners being present in the house. A perk for you is that, when you arrive home from vacation, your floors will look spectacular and coming back will be a good thing. A great company to contact is Getz Hardwood Flooring, who advertises with Delaware County Magazine. Frank Getz has been doing this for more than 10 years and he knows exactly how to treat his customers. Luckily for us, they serve the Greater Philadelphia area. There are many colors and styles of hardwood flooring to choose from. If you want to try a darker color for your home, try red mahogany or ebony. These colors tend to give a more rustic feel. If you have a brightly lit space, you may want to opt for neutral or something in between light and dark. Modernistic colors such as Brazilian Ebony compliment light furniture and offer a more relaxed atmosphere. Bamboo is really nice, however it does not offer a longer warranty than other types such as Oak and Jatoba. Jatoba is naturally hard wood which usually appears richer in color. Also, it is very durable and holds up very well against heavy traffic throughout the house.
If you choose to have professionals come in and refinish your floors, get a free quote from Getz Hardwood Flooring. Frank Getz will be the person to contact and he can be reached at 215-637-1005. Also, you can to its Web site at: www.getzhardwoodfloors.com.
On the Web site you can view photos of the finished floors of satisfied customers. See for yourself the astonishing results that yield from the hard labor the employees put in. Chances are that once you do get your floors restored and polished, it will become the conversation piece amongst your guests. Make sure to allow 24 hours to pass before using your newly refinished floors. Do not drag furniture back to their places. For a few weeks, be very gentle to your floors to maintain the glossy finish. Removing shoes and keeping animal claws filed will also keep the scratching to a minimum. Avoid chemicals and bleach when cleaning your floors. Keep them clean with soft brooms and mops and your floors should stay looking as great as the day they were refinished.

Q & A with Frank Getz of Getz Hardwood Flooring

Q: Frank, what makes Getz Hardwood Flooring stand out from other companies?

A: We really pride ourselves on our professionalism. When we start a job, we keep our customers well informed and we stay true to our word. I am always here for the customer’s questions and concerns. Also, we are fully licensed to perform work and I have a very well trained staff.

Q: How long does it take you to complete a job?

A: Depending on the size of the area we are refinishing, it may only take a couple of days to restore the hardwood. I will go into the home and assess the area and give a quote. We usually ask that the owners vacate the home, so that we can get the job done in a timely manner. The jobs we complete are always done correctly and customers are pleased with the final outcome.

Q: Are the benefits of having your hardwood floors restored by your company greater than the benefits of doing it yourself?

A: Definitely. It is a lot of work to do it on your own. Besides, it becomes time consuming for someone with a job and a life to redo their floors opposed to having us come in and completing it in a couple of days. I have been doing this for over 10 years and it is a pain in the neck for someone to do it on their own.

Q: How do you maintain the beautiful results?

A: Keeping off it for 24 hours after the floors are refinished. When cleaning, use a string mop opposed to sponge. Also, do not use a wax based cleaner. Use the product called BonaKemi when cleaning and re-polishing. This tends to restore the gloss. Obviously, clean up any spills immediately so that the finish stays intact. Keep from unnecessary traffic, meaning if you can help it, remove shoes with heals before walking on the floors. Lastly, apply those felt pads underneath the legs of furniture.
