Family Fun Oct 2010

The Wachovia Center has changed its name to the Wells Fargo Center, but they are still delivering loads of entertainment for you and your family. Shows are finishing up their 2010 seasons and preparing for 2011. Look forward to shows such as Cirque du Soleil, the Harlem Globetrotters, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey, and Toy Story 3 in the upcoming months.

Cirque du Soleil delivers a world of wonders and excitement. You and your family will enjoy the elaborate costumes and make up worn by the performers and the acrobatic feats that will amaze you. For a more traditional circus experience, check out the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Children of all ages will enjoy watching the gymnasts and acrobats perform, and don't forget about the animals! Give your kids an experience they will never forget.

One of Disney's newest and most popular films is so cool, they put it on ice! Toy Story 3 is coming to the Wells Fargo Center this December. Watch Woody, Buzz and all of your favorites as they entertain you and your family!

Keep checking Delaware County Magazine for chances to win tickets to these events and more! Just because it’s getting chilly outside doesn’t mean you can’t go for a swim! The Ridley YMCA is offering Fall Family Swim on Saturdays from 7 to 8 p.m until December 4. For details, call 610-534-4800. The Hedgerow Theater in Media is presenting “The Magical Land of Oz” every Saturday through October 30. The show is an hour long and catered especially for children, with audience participation and songs set to Hip Hop and Calypso rhythms. Tickets are $9 for children and $11 for adults. For more information, call 610-565-4211 or visit www.hedgerowtheatre.org. Reservations are recommended.

Your children can follow Hansel, Gretel and their breadcrumbs at The Media Theatre from Oct. 9 to the 30. Children 4 and up will enjoy the musical version of this classic tale and will laugh along too. For more information, call 610-891-0100 or visit mediatheatre.org.

There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate for Halloween too! Media will host a Halloween Extravaganza at the Media Community Center on Oct. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Extravaganza is followed by the 46th Annual Delaware County Halloween Parade on State Street. The parade begins at 2 p.m. and features fun that the whole family can enjoy.

Other Halloween parades are taking place in Veterans Memorial Park in Ridley Park on Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 1 p.m. and in Norwood Kugler Park in Norwood on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. Visit the Haverford Community Park for “Monster Bash,” a night of fun for the whole family. The event will feature pumpkin painting, scary games, a nighttime trail walk, and roasting marshmallows around the fire. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. on October 30. Admission is $12 for individuals or $25 per family. For more information, call 610-446-9397, visit haverfordtownship.com or email recinfo@haverfordtownship.org.

For Harry Potter fans, visit the Helen Kate Furness Free Library on Oct. 30 at noon for games, stories, treats and prizes! The fun is for ages 3 through 5th grade, and wear your best costume! Check out your local library for more fun events throughout fall!
