Curb Appeal: Grass to Roof, Look Like a Million Bucks
By: Charlotte Barr

Curb Appeal It’s time to say hello to spring and make our homes look appealing from lawn to roof. First and foremost, it is important to designate an area for toys and tools. There needs to be a visual difference between your yard and the neighborhood playground or the town junk yard. Get it in the shed or basement, just out of sight. Now that your yard is clean, you will want a gorgeous lawn and or flowers that bring attention to the beautiful home you spend your hard earned money on. If your lawn begins to prematurely bald, it is a good idea to use Scotts Miracle-Gro brand grass seed. It will bring the entire yard to life. Do not forget to read the labels to decipher which seed suits your lawn. To help grass grow, make sure to add fertilizer to the soil that is ready for planting.

Depending on your style, window boxes can be a charming additive to your windows. Styles vary from wrought iron to wood or composite window boxes. Fill these boxes with flowers that you really like and want to take care of. Some year round options are friendly gerbera daisies, perennials and vibrant lobelia. On the low maintenance side, acquire some artificial flowers such as geraniums or petunias. Another idea to dress up your window is to install shutters, which you can purchase inexpensively at hardware stores and even online.

Curb Appeal Lighting is always important for accentuating a great house. Not only do we want to show off our homes but, we would like our guests to exit and enter without hurting themselves. Path lights are appealing yet useful and can be purchased for as low as $13 at Home Depot. If you are looking for easy installation, try solar path lights, which do not require any wiring. They are sold in packs at Lowes starting at $30 and up. These lights turn on and off automatically and could last up to eight hours. With all of these projects, you can really create an inviting look. Q &A:

Q: What if I have not had any success growing grass?

A: If you have tried everything from killing weeds and crab grass to laying sod, and still the lawn looks bare, try calling in the pros like Tri State Landscaping.

Q: What types of flowers are recommended for first time planters?

A: Perennials and Roses are good. Remember to check which types of roses that is good for your soil and plant once the frost is gone.

Q: What is the easiest way to keep within your budget for yard projects?

A: Research, research and shop around. Figure out if you really have the time to do it on your own and if the results will produce quality. It will save you money to do it yourself, but it is easier to hire the pros if you can afford to do so.
